Tidco to develop ITIR in Chennai

State-enterprise Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd, a Government has submitted a concept note to the state government for developing an
information technology investment region in Chennai. Once the government clears
the proposal, it will be forwarded to the Centre for approval and other
clearances.
The ITIR will be developed on 1,600 sq. km of land, said an official from Tidco.
The project is in the initial stage and Tidco is in the process of conducting a
survey for identifying land. R. Karthikeyan, Development Manager, Tidco, told
Projectmonitor that the land would be identified next month and the corporation
would submit the detailed project report by the end of August to the state
government.
As per the proposal, Tidco will construct a new road connecting Chennai,
Mahabalipuram and Kanchipuram enabling the IT companies to have alternative
locations for setting up their units. Tidco also plans to connect Mahabalipuram,
Tirukazhukundram, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram with a single road while NH-4
will be extended to Mahabalipuram from Chennai.
Meanwhile Tidco is planning to expand the Ticel Bio-Park, P. Shanmugasundaram
Managing Director of Ticel Bio-Park Ltd, said phase-II would entail the
expansion of the bio park from 100,000 sq. ft to 900,000 sq. ft with an
investment of around Rs 1,800 crore. Land for the expansion is available and
Ticel will invite private companies to set up their units in the park.
Ticel Bio-Park, a world-class infrastructure for biotech R&D, was implemented on
5 acres in Chennai at a cost of Rs 62.5 crore. Although Tidco is not a major
equity partner in new industrial projects, it holds 1 per cent stake in several
projects and is keen in obtaining clearances from the government for the
projects to be developed by the companies.
