Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, joined Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis in distributing keys to 15 self-redeveloped housing societies in North Mumbai on 25 February 2025. During his address, Shri Goyal reaffirmed the Central Government’s commitment to supporting Maharashtra’s urban redevelopment and infrastructure initiatives.
He conveyed a message from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, emphasizing the government’s dedication to ensuring permanent housing for those currently residing in makeshift dwellings within their local communities. He stressed that this initiative aims to provide long-term security for families, creating a stable living environment for future generations.
Discussing recent developments in North Mumbai, Shri Goyal highlighted the region’s rapid infrastructure growth. He mentioned that a 1,000-bed hospital near the Magathane metro station is under construction and another similar facility is planned for West Kandivali, significantly enhancing healthcare accessibility in the area.
The Minister praised Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for spearheading key infrastructure projects, including the extension of the Coastal Road (Worli-Bandra) to Versova and a proposed coastal corridor linking the new airport through the Atal Sethu bridge. He noted that these projects would ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across Mumbai.
Additionally, Shri Goyal lauded the Maharashtra Government’s initiatives in tackling civic challenges and acknowledged the government’s commitment to environmental protection by allocating over ₹26,000 crore for efficient sewage treatment, preventing water pollution.
In closing, Shri Goyal underscored the importance of self-reliance in urban development, aligning with the government’s broader vision of making housing both accessible and sustainable for all citizens.
