Nuclear Power Plants

Indian Government has approved plans to set up ten nuclear reactors in different parts of the country.

The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh on 5 March 2023 said in the Parliament that the proposed nuclear reactors would be set up jointly with PSUs or exclusively by NPCIL.

The 10 reactors which were accorded administrative approval and financial sanction would be indigenous Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors of 700 MW each. These reactors would be set up in ‘fleet mode’ progressively by the year 2031 at a total cost of Rs. 1,05,000 crores.

The Government has amended the Atomic Energy Act in 2015 to enable the Joint Ventures of NPCIL with Public Sector Enterprises to set up nuclear power projects.
