The Flash Report for January 2023 carrying information on the project status central sector infrastructure projects of Rs 150 crore or more indicate that of the 1,454 monitored projects 871 projects are delayed with respect to their original schedules and 272 projects have reported additional delays vis-à-vis their date of revised completion.
As per the report, the road transport and highways sector has the maximum number of delayed projects at 460, followed by railways at 117 projects and the petroleum industry at 90 projects.
Total original cost of the 1,454 projects was Rs 20,59,065.57 crore and their anticipated completion cost is likely to be 25,05,248.43 crore, indicating a total cost overruns of Rs 4,46,182.86 crore (21.67 percent of original cost). The expenditure incurred on these projects till January 2023 was Rs 13,53,875.70 crore, which is 54.04 percent of the anticipated cost of the projects.
Out of the 1454 projects,10 projects are ahead of schedule, 264 are on schedule, 871 are delayed, 335 projects have reported cost overrun and 239 projects have reported both time and cost overrun with respect to their original project implementation schedules.
