Union Home Minister Amit Shah has inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for major road infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 1,941 crore in Delhi. The biggest component is the Rs 1,635-crore Barapullah Elevated Road Phase-III, which now provides signal-free connectivity between East and South Delhi, linking Mayur Vihar Phase-I through Sarai Kale Khan towards AIIMS.
The programme also included the inauguration of the Mukarba Chowk underpass, comprising two vehicular and one pedestrian underpass, expected to facilitate the movement of around 15,800 vehicles a day. Foundation stones were also laid for the Modi Mill–Kalkaji flyover extension and the Savitri Cinema flyover in South Delhi, together estimated at around Rs 371 crore. A foundation stone was additionally laid for the Loni Road roundabout underpass, aimed at easing traffic between Loni and Shahdara.
The projects are intended to provide signal-free corridors, reduce bottlenecks at major intersections, shorten journey times and improve connectivity across several parts of the national capital.
