JSW Group has planned to set up a 2.4 million tpa cement grinding unit at Salboi in Paschim Medinipur district, the commencement of works for which was inaugurated at the hands of West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee, on January 6, 2016. The cement plant will be accompanied by a 300-mw captive power plant. The Sajjan Jindal-controlled business conglomerate has 4,000 acres of land in possession that it had acquired for setting up a massive 10 million tpa integrated steel plant. The project, proposed in 2008, was put on hold following difficulties in securing iron ore linkages and the depressed demand for steel.
