Western Corridor_ProjectsMonitorThe Sojitz-L&T Consortium has signed an EPC rail contract with the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd for the construction of 626 km of a double track corridor from Rewari in Haryana to Iqbalgarh in Gujarat, via Rajasthan.

The DFCCIL is a special purpose vehicle of the Indian Railways and has awarded a part of India’s largest and the first-of-its-kind project in the rail sector—Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, to a consortium of Sojitz Corporation, Japan and Larsen and Toubro. The contract amount is approximately 110 billion yen, which is ever the largest contract under Japanese ODA loan, was awarded to the consortium by DFFCIL on June 10 this year.

The EPC order secured by the Sojitz-L&T Consortium involves construction of 626 km of a double track corridor from Rewari in Haryana to Iqbalgarh in Gujarat, via Rajasthan, spanning three states. The consortium’s scope includes construction of 1,388 track km of railway line, 112 major bridges, 1,188 minor bridges, 20 stations along with supply of equipment. The project will be executed using mechanised means of sleepers and track lining machines using the latest technology in railway construction. Adopting advanced construction technologies, the consortium is expected to complete the project in 48 months.

Complementing the consortium, Takeshi Yagi, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan said, “This has been a much awaited ceremony that would greatly reinforce the Indo-Japanese relations and take it to newer heights. DFCC project will be a game changer for the future of Indian rail infrastructure.”
L&T Construction has won new orders valued more than Rs.3,000 crore across various business segments in August 2013.

  • EPC order valued Rs.1,500 crore from Petroleum Development Oman LLC for the Yibal third stage depletion compression (Y3DC) project at the Yibal-Natih gas reservoir in Oman.
  • Rs.1,071-crore worth orders from Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Ltd for commissioning of 400 kV double circuit quad line of a total length of 274 km and from Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd for rural electrification works in Jaunpur District of Uttar Pradesh under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna Phase –II.
  • Rs.433 crore from various ongoing projects.
