Essar Power Orissa has postponed the commissioning of its 120 MW coal-based captive power plant (CPP) at Paradip, Odisha to January 2015. However, reasons for delay in commissioning are not known. As per original schedule the project should have been commissioned by January 2013. The cost of the project too has gone up due to delay in the execution of the project. The total cost of the project was initially estimated to be Rs.683 crore. However, Essar Power has already spent Rs. 836 crore on the project thus clearly indicating that the final cost of the project may be much more than the original estimation.

Essar Power Orissa’s thermal power project is being developed in two phases: Phase-I comprising 2×30 MW and Phase-II 2×30 MW. Electricity generated by the proposed power plant will exclusively cater to the power requirement of the pelletization and beneficiation unit of Essar Steel India Limited
