Construction on the 594-km-long Ganga Expressway, a high-speed corridor connecting Meerut and Prayagraj, has been completed and is all set for inauguration. According to the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), the launch is likely to take place between March 25 and 31, with the state government planning to approach the Prime Minister’s Office to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the inauguration. Once operational, the 594-km-long Ganga Expressway will reduce the travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from around 12 hours to just six to seven hours.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Ganga Expressway in December 2021, after which the construction gathered pace. Built at a cost of Rs 36,200 crore, the expressway is being regarded as one of Uttar Pradesh’s most ambitious infrastructure projects designed to boost connectivity between eastern and western Uttar Pradesh and accelerate industrial growth across several districts. With trial runs and toll management testing already conducted, officials are targeting to commence full vehicular movement by April 1, 2026.
