Jindal ITF Ltd (JITF), a PR Jindal group company, is expected to complete second phase of Haldia-Farraka waterways project shortly, after a delay of one year. The company has completed a majority of the work including unloading infrastructure and material handling system. The delay of one year was largely on account of a delay in the transfer of land by NTPC to JITF, delay in clearing the space of erection of conveyor belt and change in the scope of the project. Phase I of the project was completed in November 2013.
JITF has signed a tripartite agreement with NTPC and Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) for transportation of imported coal from Haldia port to NTPC’s Farraka power station in West Bengal. As per the agreement, NTPC has guaranteed a minimum quantity of 3 MTPA.
