Mahindra & Mahindra has taken possession of 800 acres of land in the Additional Butibori industrial area near Nagpur, Maharashtra, for a proposed automobile and tractor manufacturing hub involving an investment of more than Rs 15,000 crore.
The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) handed over the land within six months of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Advantage Vidarbha 2026. The project is expected to generate more than 20,000 direct jobs.
Mahindra has paid MIDC over Rs 706 crore for the 800-acre land parcel. The company has been allocated 1,500 acres in total, with possession of the remaining 700 acres expected to be transferred at a later stage.
Production at the greenfield manufacturing facility is scheduled to begin in 2028. Once fully operational, the integrated hub is planned to have an annual production capacity of more than five lakh vehicles and one lakh tractors.
The automobile manufacturing unit will support multiple powertrain technologies, including internal combustion engines and electric vehicles, alongside next-generation vehicle platforms. The tractor manufacturing unit will cater to domestic demand as well as export markets.
The project will also be supported by a proposed 150-acre supplier park in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. In addition, Mahindra plans to establish a skilling centre in Nagpur to develop a skilled workforce for the manufacturing ecosystem.
The land possession ceremony was attended by MIDC regional officer Manohar Pote, chief engineer Rajesh Zanjal, Mahindra automotive division chief operating officer Vinay Khanolkar, Nagpur project plant head Nitin Vaidya and Ashish Sodte. Kapil Chandrayan, chief executive officer of the Association for Industrial Development (AID), which helped facilitate the land transfer, was also present.
Chandrayan said the completion of the land transfer within six months of the MoU marked a significant step towards attracting industrial investment to Vidarbha. The project is expected to strengthen the region’s manufacturing ecosystem, create employment opportunities and accelerate industrial development in eastern Maharashtra.
