The project cost of Meja supercritical thermal power project has gone up from Rs 7,575 crore to Rs 10,821 crore. However, reasons for this 43% jump in cost are not known. The project cost will be funded through an equity of Rs.3,246.33 crore and debt of Rs.7,574.77 crore. The debt for the project has already been tied up with a consortium of banks and financial institutions.

2X660 MW Meja supercritical thermal power project is being implemented by Meja Urja Nigam Pvt Ltd (MUNPL), a 50:50 Joint Venture between NTPC and UPRUVNL. The execution of the project is managed by officials deputed by NTPC. The first unit of the plant is expected to start commercial operations by August 2016, followed by the second unit in February 2017. The project is coming up in Meja, district Allahabad, U.P.
