Monorail, which runs between Chembur and Jacob Circle, will start getting new rakes from February 2023.

This will gradually improve the frequency from existing 18 minutes to less than 10 minutes. Monorail, currently, operates with seven rakes, of which two are kept on stand-by.

In 2021, MMRDA had announced Medha Servo Drives will supply 10 rakes of four cars each for this corridor. Once the first rake comes, trials will be carried out after which three rakes will come every quarter.

These new rakes will be spacious and have better safety features. Medha Servo Drives will have to design the rakes before supplying these to MMRDA.

The new rakes will have high fire-resistance capacity, higher strength and state-of-the-art technology.
