The 53-km Satna–Devendranagar and 65-km Rewa–Churhat railway sections in Madhya Pradesh have been dedicated to the nation, strengthening rail connectivity across the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions. The inauguration was held in the presence of Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. A new Devendranagar–Churhat passenger train service was also flagged off.
The two sections form part of the Lalitpur–Singrauli railway project and are expected to improve passenger mobility, facilitate freight transportation and support industrial development across the region.
Rewa–Churhat Line: Rs 1,070 Crore Investment
The 65-km Rewa–Churhat railway line has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1,070 crore. The project was completed with the commissioning of the final 22.5-km stretch between Rampur Naikin and Churhat, extending railway connectivity to Sidhi district.
The new line is expected to improve access to educational institutions, healthcare facilities and employment opportunities. It could also support industrial development and freight movement, particularly given the region’s limestone and other mineral resources and its potential for cement manufacturing.
Satna–Devendranagar Line: Rs 873 Crore Investment
The 53-km Satna–Devendranagar railway line has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 873 crore. The project was completed with the commissioning of the final 8-km section between Phulwari and Devendranagar.
The line is expected to strengthen connectivity in Satna and neighbouring areas, which have a significant concentration of cement, limestone and mineral-based industries. Improved rail access could facilitate the movement of cement, clinker and other commodities, reduce dependence on road freight and improve industrial logistics.
Farmers and traders in Devendranagar, Nagod and the Panna region are also expected to benefit from improved access to larger markets. Better transportation links could support agricultural trade, handicrafts and local products while generating opportunities in warehousing, logistics, transportation and allied services.
Madhya Pradesh Railway Infrastructure Expansion
Speaking at the inauguration, Vaishnaw said railway projects worth approximately Rs 1 lakh crore were underway in Madhya Pradesh. These include new railway lines, track doubling, third and fourth lines, and gauge conversion projects across routes such as Lalitpur–Singrauli, Satna–Rewa, Katni–Singrauli, Jabalpur–Gondia, Bina–Bhopal–Itarsi, Itarsi–Nagpur, Ratlam–Khandwa, Indore–Budni, Indore–Dahod and Indore–Manmad.
The Railway Minister said the projects could enable the introduction of more than 100 long-distance trains and 50–60 short-distance services, including MEMU and Intercity trains, in the coming years.
He also highlighted the redevelopment of around 80 railway stations in the state, including Khajuraho, Ashoknagar, Balaghat, Beohari, Nainpur, Narmadapuram, Chhatarpur, Orchha, Shivpuri, Harpalpur, Chhindwara and Seoni.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the improved rail network would help farmers reach larger markets, facilitate industrial freight movement, expand opportunities for students and young people, and improve access to healthcare and tourism destinations. He also highlighted the potential benefits for mineral-rich areas and the diamond trade in Panna.
The Railway Minister additionally directed railway and district officials to inspect plantation work in the Anna region and ensure that saplings planted to compensate for trees felled during the project survive.
The commissioning of the two railway sections marks an important step in expanding passenger and freight connectivity in Madhya Pradesh, with potential benefits for regional commerce, mineral-based industries, rural markets and employment generation.
