Mumbai Airport

The Security Checkpoint Area (SCP) at T2 Terminal of Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) has undergone an expansion and upgrade, resulting in additional space and improved passenger handling capacity. The expansion aims to reduce waiting times and enhance convenience for passengers. The project was carried out in three phases. Phase 1 was completed on 31 March 2023, followed by Phase 2 on 30 June 2023. The expansion has effectively increased the terminal’s capacity, alleviating congestion and ensuring a smoother experience for air travellers.

In the post COVID-19 era, the Indian aviation sector has witnessed recovery, leading to a significant rise in daily passenger traffic. In response to this demand, MIAL, in collaboration with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and BCAS (Bureau of Civil Aviation Security), formulated a comprehensive plan to enhance capacity and upgrade the Integrated SCP facilities at Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai. The primary objective of this strategic initiative is to improve processing capacity, minimise wait times, and provide a seamless and secure travel experience for passengers. The project’s first phase commenced in September 2022, and two out of the three phases have already been completed.

To further enhance the passenger experience, CSMIA has introduced ushers to guide travellers and designated priority lanes for senior citizens, passengers with children or infants, and individuals with disabilities.

Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, the Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, expressed his satisfaction with MIAL’s progress, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring a hassle-free and enjoyable air travel experience for all passengers. He commended MIAL for creating the additional space, which will enhance capacity and convenience. Furthermore, he noted that the completion of the third phase of the project will further improve the airport’s services.

In Maharashtra, a total of 20 airport infrastructure projects, amounting to an investment of Rs 55,714 crore, are currently in progress.
