Under Namami Gange Mission 2.0, the Ministry of Jal Shakti successfully completed four significant projects in the second quarter of FY 2024-25. These projects, located in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, focus on preventing sewage discharge into the rivers, enhancing water quality, and rejuvenating river ecosystems. This initiative plays a vital role in preserving the sanctity of the Ganga and its tributaries, which is essential for the nation.
The projects were executed with a total investment of Rs 492 crore, primarily directed toward improving wastewater treatment in different regions. In Patna-Danapur, Bihar, a 25 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), along with an Interception & Diversion (I&D) network, was completed at a cost of Rs 103 crore. Additionally, in Patna-Maner, Bihar, an STP with a capacity of 6.5 MLD, including an I&D network, was completed at a cost of Rs 70 crore.
In Kairana, Uttar Pradesh, a 15 MLD STP with an I&D network was constructed at a cost of Rs 78 crore. Located on the Yamuna River, this project was executed under the Design, Build, Operate, and Transfer (DBOT) model. Furthermore, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a major initiative aimed at rejuvenating the Gomti River led to the successful completion of a 39 MLD STP, with a total cost of Rs 241 crore.
Additionally, an agreement was signed for the development of a project in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, as part of Namami Gange-II, with financial backing from the World Bank. A tripartite agreement was formalized to conserve the tributaries of the Hindon River—Pawandhoi and Dhamola—in Saharanpur. This agreement involved the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Rural), and M/s EIEL Infra Engineers Pvt Ltd, a consortium of engineering companies.
The Saharanpur project entails the construction of a 135 MLD STP, sewage pumping stations, and interception structures, with a total budget of Rs 344 crore. This project will follow the Hybrid Annuity Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with a 15-year operation and maintenance (O&M) provision.
