NTPC’s efforts to find new contractors in place of SPML and Punj Lloyd for its 750 MW Bongaigaon TPP to do the balance works has met with failure. It may be remembered here that NTPC had invited bids for completing balance civil works in January 2014 and had invited response from eleven enlisted contractors. However, only three parties showed interest and of them only two bids, namely, Gannon Dunkerley & Company (GDC) and KSS Petron Private Limited (KSS), were found to be valid. Even those two had quoted exorbitant rates thus leaving the company with no choice but to annul the tender. Now NTPC will be left with no option but re-tender the package which may further delay the project. Even after re-tendering, it is not sure whether the company will get bidders at approved cost.
