Investment in Maharashtra

On 29 September 2024, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and dedicated several projects in Maharashtra valued at over Rs. 11,200 crore via video conferencing.

He inaugurated the Pune Metro segment from District Court to Swargate, marking the completion of Phase 1 of the Pune Metro Rail Project. The cost for the underground section between District Court and Swargate was about Rs 1,810 crore.

Additionally, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Swargate-Katraj extension of Pune Metro Phase-1, estimated at Rs 2,955 crore. This 5.46 km southern extension will be entirely underground, featuring Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj stations.

The Prime Minister also dedicated the Bidkin Industrial Area, a transformative project spanning 7,855 acres under the National Industrial Corridor Development Program, located 20 km south of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra. Developed under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, this project is poised to become a significant economic hub in the Marathwada region, with a total project cost exceeding Rs 6,400 crore, to be implemented in three phases.

Further, he inaugurated the Solapur Airport, which is expected to enhance connectivity and make the city more accessible to tourists, business travellers, and investors. The revamped terminal will accommodate up to 4.1 lakh passengers annually.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation for a memorial commemorating Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule’s First Girls’ School at Bhidewada.

Maharashtra is not only one of the most industrialised states in India but also ranked high in terms of project investment commitment by both the Public and Private sector entities. According to ProjectsToday, as of 30 September 2024, Maharashtra leads Indian states with 14,830 projects and a total investment of Rs 47.39 lakh crore. The private sector has committed around Rs 20.52 lakh crore, accounting for 43.31% of the investment.
