On October 2, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various development projects in Hazaribag, Jharkhand, amounting to over Rs 80,000 crore. He introduced the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, inaugurated 40 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), and initiated the foundation for 25 additional EMRS, as well as other projects under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN).
The initiative aims to support around 63,000 villages, impacting more than 5 crore tribal people in 549 districts and 2,740 blocks across 30 states and union territories. It focuses on closing critical gaps in areas such as social infrastructure, health, education, and livelihood through 25 different interventions executed by 17 central ministries and departments.
To enhance educational facilities for tribal communities, the Prime Minister inaugurated 40 EMRS and initiated 25 more, with a combined investment exceeding Rs 2,800 crore. He also inaugurated and laid foundations for projects worth over Rs 1,360 crore under the PM-JANMAN program, which includes the construction of over 1,380 km of roads, 120 Anganwadi centres, 250 multi-purpose centres, and 10 school hostels. Additionally, significant achievements under PM-JANMAN were unveiled, including the electrification of 75,800 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) households across 3,000 villages, the launch of 275 mobile medical units, the activation of 500 Anganwadi centres, the establishment of 250 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, and the provision of drinking water to over 5,550 PVTG villages through the Nal se Jal initiative.
