Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for AIIMS Rajkot on 31 December 2020.
AIIMS Rajkot will boost health infrastructure, medical education and provide employment opportunities in the state. Around 5,000 direct jobs and many indirect jobs will be created.
Under Ayushman Bharat scheme, work to establish around 1.5 million health and wellness centres in remote areas is being undertaken and among those, around 50,000 centres have already started functioning. Around 5,000 among those are in Gujarat alone.
A total of 201 acre of land parcel has been allotted for the project. It will be built at an estimated cost Rs 1,195 crore, and is expected to be completed by mid-2022.
The state-of-the-art 750-bed hospital will also have a 30-bed Aayush block. It will have 125 MBBS seats and 60 nursing seats.
