In the first quarter of FY25, a total of 1,189 contracts worth Rs 2,38,670.2 crore were awarded. These contracts were secured by 833 companies across various sectors. Notably, 24 of these contracts were won by Indian companies for projects abroad.
During this period, 107 mega projects, each valued at Rs 500 crore or more, were awarded. These projects had a combined value of Rs 1,82,926.04 crore, accounting for more than 76% of the total contract value awarded in Q1/FY25.
Infrastructure Sector
The Infrastructure sector, which includes Social and Transport sectors, dominated the awards with 71.91% of the total contracts. This sector saw 953 contracts worth Rs 1,71,622.12 crore. Key sub-sectors included Roadways, Power Distribution, Railways, Water & Sewerage Pipeline & Distribution, Community Services, and Real Estate.
Roadways: A total of 335 contracts worth Rs 1,05,935.32 crore were awarded, making up 44.39% of the total contracts. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) led this sector with 36 contracts valued at Rs 79,402.36 crore. Notable projects included:
- Afcons Infrastructure’s Rs 2,849 crore contract for the Nagpur-Gondia Expressway.
- Navayuga Engineering’s Rs 2,763 crore contract for a multi-modal corridor in Palghar.
- Megha Engineering & Infrastructures’ Rs 2,756.86 crore contract for the Pune Ring Road.
Power Distribution: The Power Distribution sector saw 89 contracts worth Rs 19,860.21 crore. Major contracts included:
- Polaris Smart Metering’s Rs 2,246 crore project for installing 2.2 million smart meters in West Bengal.
- Techno Electric & Engineering’s Rs 1,571 crore contract for smart meters in Tripura, Ranchi, and Indore.
Railways: In the Railways sector, 66 contracts worth Rs 15,315.23 crore were finalised in Q1-FY2025. Key projects included:
- Gawar Construction’s Rs 2,037.2 crore contract for the Mumbai Metro Rail Project.
- A joint venture of Ircon International and Dineshchandra R. Agrawal Infracon’s Rs 1,198 crore contract for the Kottavalasa-Koraput Doubling Project.
Water & Sewerage Pipeline & Distribution: This sector saw 102 contracts worth Rs 9,329.82 crore. A significant contract was awarded to Megha Engineering & Infrastructures for Rs 1,960.1 crore for the Jigaon Project.
Community Services: A total of 148 contracts worth Rs 5,524.14 crore were awarded in Q1-FY2025. One notable contract was secured by Archtech Consultants for Rs 696.08 crore for the Kanchendzonga Convention Centre in Sikkim.
Real Estate: The Real Estate sector saw 117 contracts worth Rs 3,937.01 crore. A significant contract was awarded to Ahluwalia Contracts (India) for Rs 383.98 crore for the Birla Trimaya Phase – 1, 2 project in Bengaluru.
Aviation Infrastructure: Twelve contracts worth Rs 3,364.08 crore were awarded in the Aviation sector. Ahluwalia Contracts (India) secured a Rs 893.4 crore contract for the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi.
Shipping Infrastructure: Four contracts were finalised in this sector. Dredging Corporation of India secured a notable Rs 2,015.88 crore contract for maintenance dredging in the Hooghly Estuary.
Electricity Sector
The Electricity sector saw 73 contracts worth Rs 30,099.88 crore, representing 12.61% of the total contracts awarded during Q1-FY2025.
Thermal-Based Power: Four contracts were awarded, including a significant Rs 13,300 crore contract to Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) for the Talcher Thermal Power Plant in Odisha.
Coal-Based Power: In the Coal-Based Power sector, 25 contracts worth Rs 11,944.55 crore were awarded. Major contracts included:
- BHEL’s Rs 3,500 crore contract for a power project in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.
- Another Rs 3,500 crore contract for BHEL for a power project in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
