Sagarmala Projects
The Sagarmala initiative, a flagship program by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, aims to drive port-led development across India. This Central Sector Scheme extends financial support to State Governments and Union Territories for diverse projects, including port infrastructure, coastal berths, road and rail connectivity, fish harbours, skill development, and community development in coastal areas. Additionally, the scheme supports advanced projects such as international-standard cruise terminals and innovative ventures like Ro-Pax ferry services.
Launched in 2015, the Sagarmala Project seeks to revolutionize India’s maritime infrastructure and logistics. By capitalizing on the country’s extensive 7,500-kilometer coastline, the program strives to expand port capacities, improve logistics efficiency, and stimulate economic growth through the enhancement of coastal areas and maritime trade.
