Sigma Advanced Systems has commenced production at its dedicated aerospace manufacturing facility at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, marking the transition of the greenfield project from construction to active production within eight months.

The facility, being developed as part of a 500,000 sq ft aerospace manufacturing campus, has initially operationalised around 75,000 sq ft with an annual production capacity of 100,000 machining hours. The first facility is planned to scale up to nearly 300,000 machining hours annually, while the remaining campus is expected to become operational over the next 12 months.

The first batch of precision-machined aerospace components manufactured at the Sri City facility has been shipped to Sigma UK for final verification ahead of formal customer delivery. The operation has also completed the initial stages of the source-change approval process with Rolls-Royce Aerospace.

The project is aimed at replicating Sigma UK’s established aerospace manufacturing capabilities in India and progressively shifting a larger portion of the manufacturing value chain to the country. Once fully operational, around 70 percent of the manufacturing process is expected to be undertaken in India.

The Sri City campus will be expanded to incorporate additional aerospace-critical processes and specialised capabilities. Sigma expects the facility to employ more than 500 people over the next two to three years, covering precision manufacturing, complex fabrication, specialised welding, engineering and aerospace processes.

The company will also pursue NADCAP accreditation and further expand manufacturing capabilities at the facility as part of its strategy to establish a multi-site aerospace manufacturing footprint across India and the UK.
