The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Shipping has announced the completion of six works related to national highway projects in Gujarat (see table). These projects, valued at RS. 44.81 crore, were completed this year. Eight other projects have been delayed due to land acquisition, shifting of utilities and other statutory clearances.

In recent years, the road sector in Gujarat has seen the completion of more than six big-ticket projects worth around RS. 1,500 crore. These include Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway, Vadodara-Halol Toll Road and Ahmedabad-Mehsana Toll Road.

Work on the 380-km long Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway via Surat is currently underway. This project is expected to cost RS. 27,000 crore out of which around RS. 10,000 crore would be spent on land acquisition and the rest on construction work. It is a part of the Golden Quadrilateral project of NHAI.
