metro tunnelThe Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) is constructing a three km long underground section between Kanpur Central Railway Station and Transport Nagar under 23 km long first corridor IIT-Kanpur to Naubasta of Kanpur Metro Rail Project.

UPMRC completed D-wall construction at Jhakarkati Metro Station of the underground section.

The construction work on the underground section was inaugurated on 10 June 2022 with the commencement of D-wall construction at Jhakarkati Metro station.

Besides the completion of D-wall construction at Jhakarkati Metro station, roof-slab casting has also been completed up to 50 percent. Around 65 percent of D-wall construction has been completed at the Transport Nagar Metro Station.

In addition to this, construction of roof-slab and entry-exit is also being executed at a brisk pace, while 66 D-wall panels have been constructed at Jhakarkati Metro Station. A total of 84 D-wall panels are to be constructed at Transport Nagar Metro station.

Under the first corridor of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, Metro services are operational on nine km long Priority Section (IIT-Motijheel).

Beyond this, construction works on seven km long underground stretch are being executed in two phases–one is between Chunniganj and Nayaganj and the other between Kanpur Central and Transport Nagar.
