Satish Agnihotri_Rail Vikas Nigam_ProjectsMonitorDr. Satish Chandra Agnihotri was managing Director of Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd before he assumed charge, in March 2013, as Chairman and Managing Director of the public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways. Dr. Agnihotri, M.E. (Structures) and B.E. (Civil) from IIT Roorkee, joined the Indian Railway Service of Engineers in 1984. He was Director (Projects) at RVNL before taking over as managing director in 2010.

Dr. Agnihotri has been working on upcoming metro rail projects in metropolitan cities. As OSD to Member – Engineering, he was involved in laying down policies, standards, planning, implementation and monitoring of infrastructure projects across the Indian Railways. As Executive Director (Corporate Coordination) and OSD to Chairman, Railway Board, Dr. Agnihotri was engaged in substantive decision making in the Ministry of Railways.

In his career spanning over 24 years, Dr. Agnihotri has worked on important projects that include the construction of a double-line bridge over river Ganga, doubling of tracks and major yard remodelling among others. He worked on the Rajdhani route of Allahabad Division, the most prestigious track on the Railways, as Maintenance Engineer progressing to Assistant Engineer and Divisional and Senior Divisional Engineer. He was largely responsible for raising the speed potential of the Rajdhani route from 130 kmph to 160/180 kmph by upgrading the track geometry and strengthening the track.

Dr. Agnihotri has also been deputed to Japan for training in tunnel and tunnelling organised by Japan International Corporation Agency. Through UNDP, he was deputed to Germany, France and Austria for extensive training on maintenance of high-speed track and upkeep of track machines. While working as Executive Director/Track Machine, he visited Germany, France, Italy and Russia as team leader for development of high output track machines. Along with the Chairman, Railway Board, Dr. Agnihotri attended the Conference of Chief Executives of World Railways in Japan, organised by UIC (International Union of Railways).

Dr. Satish Agnihotri also has a keen interest in sports and was adjudged as best in sports and studies amongst all branches of engineering at IIT Roorkee and was awarded the Sarojini Naidu Cup for Work and Play.
