The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has agreed to part with their Dahisar (East) plot and relocate to Gorai to make room for the Dahisar East-Andheri East Metro line’s car depot. This will give fillip to the Metro project for timely completion. The plot in question at Dahisar, next to the toll naka, is a High Frequency Receiving Station of AAI and a crucial base for uninterrupted communications for smooth movement of aircraft.

The entire installation or set up will be shifted to Gorai as AAI has agreed to this option. Before MMRDA begins work to dismantle equipment at the Dahisar plot, the entire set up will have to be readied at Gorai. First, MMRDA will finance in setting up of new station at Gorai.

Thereafter, trials from the new station would be carried out followed beginning of car depot work at Dahisar for Dahisar East- Andheri East Metro corridor. The total area of the plot at Dahisar is 65 acres and MMRDA would require 16 acres for having a full-fledged car depot for 16.5km-long metro line.

The estimated project completion cost of this metro route is Rs. 6,208 crore. March 2019 has been set as the deadline to complete the metro line with 16 stations along the Western Express Highway. The Andheri East metro station will be integrated through a walkway with the existing Western Express Highway metro station.
