Phase-I of the Ahmedabad Metro project is expected to be inaugurated by the end of August 2022. The project is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The east-west and north-south corridors in the city will be opened for public use. However, the east-west corridor, which begin from Thaltej Gaam, will be operational only from Thaltej Crossroads.

Two other stations will be under construction even after the inauguration — Sabarmati and Kankaria East. The foundation stone for the project was laid in 2016.

The trial runs have begun on both corridors. The application for final inspection will be made to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety by the end of June 2022 and the inspection will be held in July 2022.

The total length of Phase-I of the Ahmedabad metro rail project is 40.03 km, of which, a 6.5 km stretch on the east-west corridor has been functional since March 2019.

The north-south corridor connects APMC to Motera. It is to be further connected by Phase-II to Mahatma Mandir and GIFT City. The east-west corridor connects Thaltej Gam and Vastral.
