The 7.5-km elevated stretch of Bengaluru Metro’s Pink Line between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere is nearing commercial operations, with the section targeted to open by the end of September 2026, subject to completion of the remaining regulatory clearances.
Karnataka Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, MLA M Krishnappa and senior officials of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL), including Managing Director P C Jafar, recently conducted a trial run and reviewed the section ahead of its proposed inauguration.
The stretch is awaiting final safety clearances from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) as well as rolling-stock approval. According to Surya, the pending safety clearances are expected within the next one to two weeks, followed by the rolling-stock approval. The state government is also awaiting the Union government’s confirmation of the official inauguration date.
The initial operational section will comprise six stations—Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIM Bangalore, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital and Tavarekere. The Jayadeva Hospital station will provide an interchange with the existing Yellow Line, improving connectivity for commuters in south Bengaluru.
The full Pink Line, extending approximately 21.25 km from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara, is planned with an elevated and underground section and will have 18 stations. The upcoming corridor is expected to strengthen Bengaluru’s mass-transit network and ease traffic congestion along the heavily congested Bannerghatta Road corridor.
