The Ministry of Coal held a meeting on 11 Sept 2024 to assess the progress of mines auctioned in different phases, currently at various stages of process completion. The session was led by Smt. Rupinder Brar, the Additional Secretary and Nominated Authority of the Ministry of Coal.
The thorough review emphasized the government’s dedication to boosting domestic coal production. The Additional Secretary urged the mine allottees to expedite actions to operationalise coal blocks that are close to becoming fully functional.
A total of 71 coal blocks are in different phases of obtaining necessary regulatory clearances. These blocks are located across nine states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and West Bengal.
This strategic review highlights the Ministry’s proactive stance on overcoming challenges related to the operationalisation of coal blocks, aiming to meet the increasing energy demands of India. By concentrating on these mines, the government seeks to optimise domestic resources and lessen reliance on coal imports.
