Essel Mining & Industries Ltd, an Aditya Birla group company, is venturing into solar based power generation. The company is planning to set up solar based power plants in various parts of Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. While the projects in Madhya Pradesh are awaiting land allocation by the state government, projects in Andhra Pradesh are in nascent stage. Essel Mining plans to install 45 MW capacity solar based power plants in six different locations in two states. Project is estimated to cost Rs. 350 crore.
Essel Mining & Industries Ltd, a prominent player in iron ore and coal mining, is not a newcomer in renewable energy sector as the company already owns wind farms. The company’s wind farm is located in Dhule and Nandurbar disctrict of Maharashtra and has an installed capacity of 75 MW.
