Dibang Hydro Power Project’s fate hangs in balance as the Draft Note for the Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI) prepared by NHPC proposes the committee to take up project with the MoEF and direct it to reconsider the project for according Forest Clearance. In its draft note for the CCI, NHPC has argued that power availability in the Northeast Region will be surplus with the commissioning of Dibang Hydro Power project. According to NHPC the project is not just a hydro power project as it also aims to moderate the impact of flood in the region. Also NHPC has taken up the matter with MoEF for reviewing the decision of the FAC.
Dibang Hydro Power Project involves setting up of 3000 MW hydro power plant for which NHPC had entered into an MoU with Arunachal Pradesh government in the year 2006.However, the project received a major setback when Forest Advisory Committee in its meeting held July 2013 recommended rejection of Forest Clearance to the project as it required diversion of 5022.84 ha of forest land.
