Neyveli Lignite Corporation’s (NLC) three power projects are stuck up due to lack of clearances from various government agencies. As a result, projects with a total power generation capacity of 4210 MW and potential investment worth Rs. 27,000 crore are stuck up. Proposed projects are planned in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan.
In case of 3X660 MW Ghatampur thermal power project in Uttar Pradesh, environment clearance is still awaited and CCI note is yet to be initiated for obtaining government’s clearance. Further, transfer of land in the name of NLC Uttar Pradesh Limited (NUPPL), the project developer, is yet to be effected. Proposed investment in this project is estimated to be Rs. 14,375 crore. In case of Rs. 10,395 crore 3×660 MW Sirkazhi thermal power project in Tamil Nadu the state government has not yet given administrative sanction for land acquisition for project. 250 MW Bithnok lignite thermal power project in Rajasthan has not made much progress as the environment clearance for the linked Bithnok mine yet to be issued by MoEF. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 2,300 crore.
