NTPC, Indian thermal power generation behemoth, wants a midterm review of MOU targets with Department of Public Enterprises, thus reflecting uncertain situation prevailing in the Indian power sector. For the first half of the current year, NTPC reported Rs. 31,885 crore turnover as against Rs. 32,079 crore reported during the same period in the previous year, thereby registering negative growth of 0.6%.

NTPC, a PSU power generation company, has raised concerns about generation loss due to Grid Restrictions and Fuel Shortage. According to NTPC, the company suffered generation loss of 19.95 BU during the first half of current fiscal due to grid restrictions. The company suffered 10.4 BU of generation loss during the first half of the current year as against 3.01 BU in the corresponding period last year due to coal shortage. Further, the generation loss in low schedule gas station increased from 30.90% in April-September 2012 to 53.86% during the first half of current year. As the generation loss is due to reasons beyond its control, NTPC has requested the Power Ministry midterm review of the set targets.
