Kolkata Metro

To streamline urban mobility, the Prime Minister on 6 March 2024 unveiled several key infrastructural developments across major cities. Notable among these inaugurations were the Kolkata Metro’s Howrah Maidan-Esplanade, Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, and Taratala-Majerhat sections, marking significant progress in the Joka-Esplanade line expansion.

The PM also initiated the Pune Metro’s stretch from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi, the Phase I extension project of the Kochi Metro Rail, the Agra Metro’s Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar corridor, and the extension of the Pune Metro Rail project’s Phase 1 between Pimpri Chinchwad Metro and Nigdi.

The Kolkata East West Metro Rail project, being executed by the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation at a cost of Rs 8,570 crore, is executed in two phases. Spanning a total of 20.17 km, with 10.8 km slated to be underground, including a 502-meter underwater stretch, the line promises to enhance connectivity from Howrah railway station to Salt Lake, comprising 12 stations, six of which are subterranean, while the remaining six are elevated.

These mass transit systems not only aim to alleviate road congestion but also ensure seamless, convenient, and comfortable transportation for urban denizens.
