Union Cabinet okays investment of Rs 5,281.94 cr for Ratle Hydro Power ProjectSJVN has secured 679 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project in Nepal from the government of Nepal.

The Investment Board of Nepal in its meeting on 29 January 2021, chaired by Prime Minister of Nepal, K P Sharma Oli, has awarded the project to the company. The company has obtained the project through international competitive bidding, after competing with various international companies including from China.

The hydro electric project is located in Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur districts of Nepal. On completion the project will generate 3561 million units of electricity per annum.

The projects being developed by SJVN in Nepal will result in overall development and boost mutual economic growth in both the countries.

The infrastructural development related to project activities will ensure overall socio-economic development of the region. The company is already constructing 900 MW Arun 3 HEP in Nepal and 217km 400 kV associated transmission system.

With addition of Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project, SJVN portfolio now stands at 8,960.5 MW. The company’s present installed capacity is 2,016.51 MW and aims to be 5,000 MW by 2023, 12,000 MW by 2030 and 25,000 MW by 2040l.

The company has presence in various sectors of energy generation which includes hydro, wind, solar and thermal. It also has presence in the field of energy transmission.
