Government has planned to build over 4,000 Ckm of transmission and distribution lines in a span of 48 months in the North Eastern region of the country. Construction of 33 new substations of 220 and 132 kV and 84 distribution substations upto 33 kV are also planned for the region. These projects will be undertaken under NER Power System Improvement Project (NERSIP) which is expected to cost Rs. 4,923.32 crore. World Bank will fund 50% of the project cost. The balance 50% of the cost will be financed by the Government of India through the Ministry of Power`s budget. The project will be implemented by Power Grid Corporation. The project will cover the states of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland.
