The Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways has pulled up various agencies for delay in the execution of road projects in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The concerned officials have been instructed to take remedial action to avoid further delays.
Some of the road projects delayed in Uttar Pradesh are Moradabad-Bareilly (NH-24), Ghaziabad-Aligarh (NH-91), Bareilly-Sitapur (NH-24), Raebareilly-Allahabad (NH-24B), new four-lane Agra Bypass, Delhi-Agra (NH-2), Jajmau Ganga Bridge-Ramadevi Crossing (NH-25) and Lucknow-Kanpur, EW/3B (NH-25).
The ministry also reviewed projects that were on schedule, such as, Lucknow-Raebareilly, BOT (NH-24B), Agra-Aligarh, BOT (NH-93), Kanpur-Kabrai, BOT (NH-86), Raebareilly-Jaunpur, Annuity (NH-231), Bareilly-Sitarganj, EPC (NH-74), Raebareily-Tanda, EPC (NH-232), Raebareilly-Banda, EPC (NH-232) and Etawah-Chakeri, BOT (NH-2).
Some of the road projects yet to be awarded in Uttar Pradesh include Aligarh-Kanpur (NH-91), Meerut-Bulandshahar (NH-235), Lucknow-Sultanpur (NH-56), Sultanpur-Varanasi (NH-56), Ghaghara Bridge-Varanasi (NH-233), Varanasi-Gorakhpur (NH-29), Aligarh-Moradabad (NH-93), Varanasi Bypass, phase-I (NH-29), Varanasi Bypass, phase-I (NH-29), Agra-Etawah Bypass (NH-2), Chakeri (Kanpur)-Allahabad (NH-2) and Handia-Varanasi (NH-2).
In Uttarakhand, two road projects have been delayed on account of funding for land acquisition, technical and administrative reasons, namely four-laning of Muzaffarnagar-Haridwar section of NH-58 on BOT and four-laning of Haridwar-Dehradun section of NH-58 & NH-72 on BOT-Annuity basis.
Work is also underway on three other projects in Uttarakhand — Kashipur-Sirtarganj (NH-74), Sitarganj-Tanakpur (NH-125) and Sitarganj-Bareily (NH-74).
Besides, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways proposes to award four new projects in the hilly state. These are: Roorkee-Chhutmazlpur-Saharanpur-Yamunanagar-Chhutmalpur-Ganeshpur (NH-73 & NH-72A), Haridwar-Nagina (NH-74), Nagina-Kashipur (NH-74) and four-laning of toll-based Rampur-Kathgodam section (NH-87).
