Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently inaugurated the state’s longest flyover. Located in capital city of Patna, the 2.35-km flyover runs on the busy market area on Bailey Road. Connecting Jagdeo Path Mor to Sheikhpura Mor, the point-to-point flyover was built by state agency Bihar Rajya Pul Nigam Ltd, at a cost of Rs.300 crore.

Speaking from Patna over phone, a senior project official of BRPNNL, said that the flyover was commissioned within the deadline, making it an unprecedented case in Bihar. Construction work started on December 23, 2012 and was completed on July 21, 2015, he said. It is expected that 80,000 vehicles will use the new toll-free flyover on daily basis.

The entire stretch under the flyover will be used for 2- and 4-wheeler parking, the official said. BRPNL is in the process of floating tenders from private contractors to manage the parking area, the official said. The four-lane flyover is mounted on single piers and there is provision of illuminating the service road under it.

Discussing finer details, the official said that the ridership on the new flyover is estimated to be 40,000 vehicles per day. “Earlier the time taken to negotiate this stretch was 30-35 minutes. With the flyover, it will take barely five minutes to cover the same,” he said. The work of the flyover was contracted to Ahmedabad-based Ranjit Buildcon Ltd.
