Coal production during April-December 2013 was 387.7 MT as against 386.8 MT achieved during the same period in the previous year. In other words, coal production during the first nine months of the current fiscal grew by just 0.2%. During the period dispatch stood at 409.46 MT as against 411.48 MT for the corresponding period in the previous year.

Coal production during the period was hit by cyclone Phalin that affected coal production during October 2013. While Coal India saw 3.3% growth in its coal production, Singareni Collieries Company Limited could achieve only 95.45% of its targeted production of 334.4 MT. In fact, poor performance by SCCL during the first nine months impacted the overall coal production. Neyveli Lignite Corporation produced 118.4 MT of lignite during the period which is 99% of its target for the period.
