Gujarat Industries Power Co. Ltd’s (GIPCL) 2×300 MW Surat Lignite Based Thermal Power Project Phase–III is facing hurdle in getting environment clearance for the project. Re-constituted Expert Appraisal Committee on environmental impact assessment of Thermal and Coal Mine Projects has recently deferred proposal for grant of Environmental Clearance for the project, citing gaps in information provided by GIPCL.

GIPCL will have to submit now additional information asked by the Expert Appraisal Committee. According to the Committee the action plan being presented for implementation of issues raised in public hearing and others is very general in nature with no specific details. GIPCL will have to revise its action plan for implementation of those issues and also give details of its CSR programme.
