Dr. K. Chandrashekhar Iyer is a Professor of Civil Engineering at IIT Delhi. He has 14 years of academic experience as well as 14 years of industry experience in construction, as he is also a part-time non-official independent Director of National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd. He completed his B.Tech. (Civil Engineering) from Banaras Hindu University and M.Tech. (Structural Engineering) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and Ph.D from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
Dr. Iyer has so far guided nine doctoral students and over a hundred projects. His area of research interest includes infrastructure project management and contract and dispute resolution. He has published a number of papers in both national and international journals and conferences. He served Mazagon Dock Ltd from 1984 to 1986 and the Military Engineer Services from 1986 to 1988, where he was associated with a number of civil engineering projects. As a project manager in DRDO from 1988 to 1998, he handled a number of time bound projects of India’s missile development programme where he was awarded a commendation certificate by the Ministry of Defence for his contribution. He has extensive experience in handling contracts and disputes to check cost and time overruns of projects.
His areas of research include financial management, project risks, legal issues in business, and project management. He has published a number of papers in the field of financial risk management of infrastructure projects; development of decision support systems for resolution of disputes; and setting guidelines and evaluation of performance level of projects. He has also been involved in many consultancy projects and has been a resource person for several executive and management development programmes conducted by public and private organisations.
Dr. Iyer is a life Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India) and Institution of Surveyors and empanelled arbitrator with Construction Industry Arbitration Council. He has been conferred with the Vishwakarma Award for the category ‘Outstanding Academician’ from Construction Industry Development Council in 2010 and Teaching Excellence Award from Indian Institute of Technology – Delhi in 2012.
