Kerala state cabinet has sanctioned Rs 93 crore for Kovalam tourism development project. The project focuses on elevating Kerala’s status as a major tourist destination.

The state government has included the project as part of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) projects.

The project will be implemented in two phases. As part of Phase-I, the infrastructure development of the Hawa beach and Light House beach, the renovation of Silent Valley Sunbath park, along with the development of corporation land will be undertaken. It will also include commuting facilities to IB beach, marking boundaries of IB beach and Adimalathura beach, and coconut grove land development.

However, the extensive development of IB beach and Adimalathura beach, and coconut plantation land development will be implemented in Phase-II.

The project will be implemented by the department of tourism (DoT). WAPCOS has been identified as the special purpose vehicle (SPV) for the project.
