Apart from 20 projects entailing an investment of Rs. 1,35,938 crore and capacity addition of 17,744 MW, which are currently under execution, NTPC is planning fresh investment to the tune of Rs. 76,034 crore in energy sector. NTPC has chalked out plans to start another thirteen new or expansion projects during the 12th five year plan. The planned projects in the pipeline comprise eight thermal power projects with an aggregate installed capacity of 11,840 MW and a hydro electric project with installed capacity of 120 MW. Feasibility Reports have already been approved for these projects. The list of projects also include three mining project in the states of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh and renewable energy schemes of 120 MW capacity in the states of Karnataka and Kerala.

Some of the projects include Tanda II, Kawas II, Gandhar II, Talcher TPP-II and Khargone STPP. NTPC has also planned expansion of Barethi STPP in Madhya Pradesh by 2,640 MW entailing an investment of Rs. 17,446 crore.
