Suzlon Group is set to expand its manufacturing footprint in Tamil Nadu with an investment of around Rs 200 crore to establish a new wind-blade manufacturing facility in southern Tamil Nadu.

The proposed facility will come up on a 40-acre site along the Tuticorin-Melakarandai National Highway and is expected to become operational by early 2027. The plant will have an annual production capacity of nearly 1 GW and will manufacture blades for Suzlon’s latest S175 wind turbine, which has a capacity of 5 MW.

According to Suzlon Group co-founder Girish Tanti, the company has held preliminary discussions with the Tamil Nadu government regarding the proposed expansion. The facility is expected to cater to both domestic demand and export opportunities.

The project is likely to generate around 2,000 employment opportunities, including 500 direct jobs and 1,500 indirect jobs.

With the new investment, Suzlon will further strengthen its presence in Tamil Nadu. The company has invested approximately Rs 775 crore in the state over the past three decades and currently supports around 3,500 direct and indirect jobs.

The proposed facility will incorporate advanced digital technologies aimed at improving productivity, workplace safety and operational performance. The investment is part of Suzlon’s broader “2.0 growth strategy”, under which the company has outlined a Rs 2,500-crore capital expenditure plan over five years.

Under the strategy, Suzlon aims to quadruple its annual renewable energy sales to 10 GW and increase its assets under management to 70 GW by FY31.

Tamil Nadu has been an important market for Suzlon since the mid-1990s, when the company began operations in the Muppandal wind energy cluster. Its existing manufacturing presence in the region includes a 66-acre integrated facility in Puducherry producing wind turbine generators and nacelle covers, along with a major forging facility in Coimbatore.

The proposed Tuticorin facility is expected to further strengthen Tamil Nadu’s position as a key hub for wind turbine and component manufacturing, leveraging the state’s strong renewable-energy resources and established industrial ecosystem.
