Indira Sagar_ProjectsMonitorNHDC Ltd, a joint venture of NHPC Ltd and Government of Madhya. Pradesh, may have to spend Rs.32.84 crore to repair the damaged Indira Sagar dam. It may be recalled here that the Indira Sagar Dam spillway gates were opened continuously for 45 days for the first time from July 17 to August 30, 2013 inducing highest ever discharge of 34,332 cumec on August 23. As a result of continuous discharge, roller bucket and downstream apron were extensively damaged and were washed away.

NHDC Ltd, formerly known as Narmada Hydroelectric Development Corporation Ltd, estimates that it may take at least two months to complete the restoration work. The Board of Directors of NHDC has already approved the proposal and the company may soon issue tender to award the project.
