Dr. P. S.Rana_Urban Planning_ProjectsMonitorDr. P.S. Rana was responsible for setting up of ‘National Resource Facility on Bamboo Technology’ at IIT Delhi. Dr. Rana was also actively involved in the field of housing and urban infrastructure and was instrumental in diversification of HUDCO portfolio, notably, joint ventures, consultancy services etc. He was a pioneer in propagating the concept of regional development through corridor planning and also a supporter of the concept of PURA.

Dr. Rana has more than 35 years of experience in real estate and infrastructure finance and development, including a 16-year career at Housing & Urban Development Corporation Ltd, where he retired as chairman managing director. In this capacity he was instrumental in promoting mass urban housing.

He joined HUDCO in June 1990 as Executive Director (Environment and Technology) to set up new projects. During his tenure he pioneered infrastructure finance in India and financed its first-ever private airport as well as Sabarmati and Yamuna riverfront projects valued at $10 billion.

Between 1975 and 1990, Dr. Rana worked in various capacities in Delhi Transport Corporation. He joined in his first job in Town and Country Planning organisation and worked on the first studies of the mass rapid transit systems for Delhi, now popularly known as Delhi Metro. In 1980, he was awarded Commonwealth Fellowship to pursue his research in the field of urban transport at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, and was awarded Ph.D. in Transport Engineering and Management in 1983, the minimum time required for the degree.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from IIT Delhi in 1970. He obtained his P.G. Diploma in Town and Country Planning from School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, in 1972.

Dr. Rana belonged to numerous professional associations focused on development and infrastructure, public health and safety, and strategic urban planning.

He took a keen interest in the growth of his alma mater and helped in setting up HUDCO Chair Professorship on Bamboo Technology.
Dr. Rana is now Chairman of India Infrastructure and Urban Development Company Pvt. Ltd, a company engaged in providing consultancy services in rehabilitation of project affected persons, setting up new integrated townships, project development management, research, policy formulation in housing, urban development and infrastructure sector.

He is a member of Punjab State Planning Group and member of IIT Delhi Advisory Council. He played a key role in National Urban Transport Policy, National Housing Policy and various state level policies. He has also received several distinguished awards.
