Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha laid the foundation stone for a Rs 1,437-crore underground power cabling project in Agartala, aimed at modernising the city’s electricity distribution infrastructure and improving power supply reliability.
The project, launched at Bardowali Higher Secondary School Ground in Agartala, is expected to significantly reduce power disruptions, strengthen public safety and improve the overall urban infrastructure of the state capital.
The initiative, being implemented by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), will involve shifting overhead electricity cables underground. The move is expected to minimise power interruptions caused by storms, heavy rainfall and other natural factors, while reducing accidents arising from damaged or fallen electric wires.
Speaking at the foundation stone ceremony, Saha said the project fulfils a long-standing demand of Agartala residents and would enhance the city’s appearance and safety. He added that underground cabling would help improve road space, streamline electricity distribution, reduce power theft and maintain stable voltage levels for consumers.
The Chief Minister emphasised that reliable electricity infrastructure is essential for attracting investments, generating employment and supporting industrial and commercial activities. The project is expected to strengthen electricity services for industries, businesses, educational institutions and healthcare facilities, contributing to Tripura’s economic development.
Saha further stated that the state government is focused on developing advanced, safe and reliable infrastructure through the adoption of modern technologies to meet the needs of future generations.
